Fishermen must carry a small notebook for recording their catch, a tape measure and watch. Fishing is
from the shore only. There is no fishing from islands cut off at high tide including those in Menemsha
Bight. Boats may not be used for fishing access. Fishermen may only fish from beaches that are accessible.
The first cast cannot be made until 7 p.m. on Saturday. Tournament fishing must stop at exactly 2 a.m.
Should a fisherman hook a fish prior to 2 a.m., he/she may fight, land and count the fish after 2 a.m.
Most Fish: The total number of fish of any size length caught and released among partners. Each fisherman
must record the catch of his partner, not his own.
Largest Fish: Your partner must measure the fish. Fish must be measured from the snout to the end
of the tail in a straight line and around the girth. All bass should be at least 34 inches in length for
consideration. Please provide the length and girth when turning in your results. Any fisherman who catches
the fish of their dreams, and decides to keep it, is excluded from this category.
Single Fly: You may only fish with one fly. If you lose it to a bluefish or hard strike you may
continue fishing, but may not add any fish caught to your team total. However you may still qualify for
the largest fish award.
Pairings: Fishermen not part of a fishing team will be paired at random with other fishermen. Please
be certain to indicate on your entry form if you will be fishing as part of a team. If you are matched up at
random please do not surprise your partner with other evening plans. Be prepared to fish from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m.
If a partner must quit early, record your daily tally up to that point.
Saturday, Noon - 3 p.m. Even if you have registered in advance, please check in by 3 p.m. at the M.V.
Regional High School, on the Edgartown-Vineyard Haven Road, to confirm we have your entry. We will go over
the rules at 3 p.m. and make random match-ups. Please do not be late!
Saturday, 7 p.m. - Sunday, 2 a.m. The Tournament begins at 7 p.m. on Saturday and runs until 2 a.m.
Sunday, 8 - 9:30 a.m. Breakfast at the M.V. Regional High School. Notebooks must be turned in by 9:00 a.m.
Team numbers will be based on the number of fish caught, divided by the number of fishermen in the team. Largest
fish caught reports must include a name and length, girth and total inches. Late team reports will not be accepted.
Sunday, 9:30 a.m. Awards ceremony. Fishermen must be present to win prizes.
Roberto Germani Trophy for the most striped bass caught and released by a team. Roberto Germani, an
island "character", believed strongly in the philosophy of catches and release. For Roberto, watching fish
was often as enjoyable as catching them.
Sonny & Joey Beaulieu Trophy for the largest striped bass caught and released. Sonny and Joey Beaulieu,
father and son, died in a tragic boating accident along with Fred Loud and his son Adam. Sonny helped first begin
this tournament.
Arnold Spofford Trophy for the most fish caught and released by a team using one fly. Arnold Spofford, fly
fisherman and gentleman, was a familiar face to many whom fished the beaches of Martha's Vineyard. We feel their
spirit where the sea kisses the shore.
If you would like to participate in the tournament, fill in this Catch and Release Form
and return it per the attached instructions.
